The PositionMuseum Directors are responsible for the overall leadership, operation, planning, and management of a State museum in conformance with professionally accepted museum practices and standards for the management of collections held in the public trust and interpretation of those collections through research, exhibitions, education, and public programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Department of Native American Affairs (DNAA) is seeking a Museum Administrator who is responsible for the overall operation of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center (SISCCM) along with the nearby grounds.
The position is located in Carson City.
The Administrator is responsible for the implementation of policies set by DNAA and the State of Nevada; the administration of the SISCCM to produce good measurable results to the satisfaction of the DNAA Commissioners; oversight of SISCCM acquisitions, collections, and organization thereof, relevant to the SISCCM mission.
The Museum Administrator facilitates communication, cooperation, and collaboration toward a cohesive work environment within the department, with stakeholders, partner organizations, and other State agencies including agency Tribal Liaisons; provides leadership and management for SISCCM staff and volunteers; develops relationships with those who attended or were directly associated with the Stewart Indian Boarding School; represents the department through meetings and presentations.
Makes financial recommendations for the budget building process including marketing; co-manages financial and accounting functions including budgeting in accordance with accounting best practices; works with the department director to monitor grant opportunities and develop and monitor contracts.

To QualifyIn order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
QualificationsEducation and Experience (Minimum Qualifications):
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in museum studies, public history, anthropology, history, art, or related field and three years of progressively responsible professional experience in a museum which included supervision of volunteers or staff and working with the public in a large program area; ORBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in museum studies, public history, anthropology, history, art, or related field and four years of progressively responsible professional experience in a museum which included supervision of volunteers or staff and working with the public in a large program area; ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
