Nurse (Occupational Health)
Organizational Setting
The FAO Health Services (CSLH) provides preventive medical, counselling and occupational health services to FAO employees and their dependents and advises the Organization on all health-related matters. Within the Health Services, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) unit provides a wide range of services in headquarters and field office promoting and contributing to a healthy work environment. The position is located in the FAO Health Services (CSLH) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Main Purpose The Nurse (Occupational Health) provides a wide selection of nursing services to employees including emergency care, travel briefing and other medico-administrative duties. He/she also supports in the implementation of FAO health and wellbeing policies and guidelines including health awareness initiatives, mitigation of specific health hazards, medical evacuation, sick leave, fitness assessment and other tasks under occupational safety and health policy in FAO.
Supervision Received/Exercised The Nurse (Occupational Health) reports to the Medical Officer (OHS) under the overall guidance of the Chief, Health Services.
Working Relationships The Nurse (Occupational Health) maintains a wide range of contacts: with employees, doctors and nurses within and outside the Organization including counterparts from other United Nations clinics; and with other healthcare providers.
Key Functions/Results Clinical activities:
• Provide emergency medical care during working hours including dealing with accidents or other emergencies suffered by an employee, or a visitor who is on the premises of FAO; be available by telephone in case of emergencies.
• Attend inquiries of FAO employees in the concerned office in person or virtually (phone, video call, email and other means of tele-health) and refer to specialized services, if necessary.
• Support and coordinate the certifications of general health status for employees under recruitment ('Entry Medical Clearance'), who require periodic review ('Periodic Medical Clearance'), mission/reassignment clearance and Exit Medical Clearance.
• Consult with the Medical Officer when a given presenting problem goes beyond scope of practice/experience.
• Maintain strict confidentiality with regards to patient's medical records (emergency treatment).
• Maintain accurate, precise medical record of patient.

Administrative duties:
• Maintain up-to-date inventory of the diagnostic and medical supplies, equipment and consumables needed for the screening and vaccine campaign, defibrillators, first aid kits, and personal protective equipment in headquarters and field offices.
• Check equipment and supplies and maintain this in working order.
• Supports corporate initiatives in accordance with the Corporate Environmental Responsibility Strategy to reduce emissions, increase efficiency and integrate sustainability.
• Liaise with focal points and other Divisions/Offices/Centres in FAO to ensure that equipment and supplies are in working order.
Occupational Health activities:
• Coordinate the organization of awareness campaigns, training sessions and in-person and video sessions.
• Provide orientation and referral to appropriate qualified specialists or to other qualified hospitals/private clinics, as required.
• Collaborate in the identification and correction of work factors, as well as provide advice in matters concerning protection of the environment.
• Carry out mission to FAO Decentralized Offices for occupational health and safety related tasks.
Impact of Work The incumbent's work affects the efficiency, effectiveness, accuracy and timeliness of the services provided by the work unit. He/she actively supports the Medical Officer (OHS) in coordination and provision of planned healthcare services for the successful achievement of the unit's mandate.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Minimum Requirements Education: Degree in nursing, public health or other healthcare occupation. Registered to practice as a nurse in the country of the duty station.
Experience: Four years of experience in general nursing with at least three years of experience in family practice medicine, emergency room and/or ICU. A certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.
Languages: Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English.
IT Skills: Good knowledge of MS Office applications, Internet and any Occupational Health software.
Residency: General Service Staff are recruited locally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be nationals of the country of the duty station or possess an existing visa/work permit and reside within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of the application. "Commuting distance" means the distance within which staff members can travel daily between their place of work and their residence.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills • Demonstrated ability to extract medical data from systems to produce statistics and reports is considered a strong asset.
• Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of French or Spanish.
• Knowledge of Corporate Environmental Responsibility.
