Operations Manager
For our client, a Ship Management Company specialized in technical management, crew management, consultancy services, and dry bulk operations, we're seeking a OPERATIONS MANAGER.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: The Operations Manager will support the COO and ensure smooth company operations, collaborating across various sectors for a comprehensive business view and rapid career growth.
The role involves engaging with diverse stakeholders, including owners, staff, authorities, and global enterprises.
The ideal candidate should be curious, adaptable, and eager to learn in the fast-paced maritime industry.
Excellent organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a passion for the sector.
Willingness to travel internationally and be on-call is required, with ample opportunities for skill development within a dynamic team.
RESPONSABILITIES: Contract Management: Work together with the COO and the team to familiarize and oversee agreements between the company and its customers, along with agreements between customers and charterers.
Operations Support: Provide assistance to the operations team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Review daily reports from ships and tugs to confirm adherence to minimum performance standards outlined in contracts.
Purchasing Coordination: Assist the purchaising team with spare part requests, serving as a liaison between them and the supervisors to determine onboard requirements and priority.
Collaborate with the purchasing team to oversee the transportation of spare parts to ships, taking into account vessel positions and business operations.
Budget Management: Monitor annual budgets and ensure adherence, taking proactive measures to address deviations.
Stakeholder Communication: Maintain direct communication with clients regarding operations, maintenance, safety, and crew-related issues.
Safety and SMS Compliance: Be proficient in the Safety Management Systems (SMS) of the company's clients.
Conduct onboard checks and training sessions to verify crew compliance with SMS, safety standards, and international regulations.
Incident Analysis: Investigate onboard incidents, reconstruct events, and propose measures to prevent recurrence.
Regulatory Knowledge: Possess foundational knowledge of SOLAS, STCW, and MARPOL.
Manage certificate deadlines, coordinate with classification societies for renewals and inspections, and liaise with superintendents for scheduling.
Safety Promotion: Develop safety programs for fleet dissemination and ensure adherence to safety practices.
International Travel: Be available for international assignments (Africa/Asia) lasting 2-3 weeks on average.
On-Call Availability: Be accessible outside regular working hours to handle emergencies and urgent situations REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's or Master degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field or equivalent maritime experience, preferably in a similar role on board or ashore.
Fluency in English (written and spoken) Understanding of maritime regulations and classification society requirements; familiarity with maritime safety regulations and standards (SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL).
Demonstrated ability to handle financial planning, cost optimization, and project execution Ability to effectively organize time and manage deliverables, whether working in the office, traveling, or autonomously in a smart working environment.
Punctuality in meeting deadlines and delivering assigned tasks.
Familiarity with shipboard operational software and reporting tools.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
LOCATION: Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and occasional visits abroad and on board vessels.
