Organizational Setting: This position is located in the Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. Reporting Lines The Policy Officer reports to the Director, Support Mechanism of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. Technical Focus Provides analytical and operational support for results-based policy assistance and governance work of the GAAHP. Key Functions Collects and analyses relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, data and/or statistics. Undertakes analysis, provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical/scientific documents. Participates in the development of improved work methods, tools and systems. Updates databases and web pages. Participates in multi-disciplinary project/work teams and missions. Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars. Participates in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences. Specific Functions Contributes to the curation and maintenance of the reference basket of policy instruments and programmes. Conducts policy analysis and disseminates information on effective policy instruments. Provides support in producing and disseminating materials and information products. Tracks results from the Alliance's global, regional and country-level partnerships. Participates in efforts to support governments in the formulation and implementation of effective policies. Participates in the inter-agency collaboration of the UN on the Global Alliance. Undertakes any other assignment related to the implementation of the Terms of Reference. Performs other duties as required. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Advanced university degree in political sciences, social sciences, economics, sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, or related field. Three years of relevant experience in policy analysis and policy assistance work. Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another official FAO language. Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building effective relationships, Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Technical/Functional Skills Work experience in more than one location or area of work. Experience in policy analysis and advice relating to poverty reduction and food security. Experience in working with inter-governmental bodies and multidisciplinary teams. Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative analysis. Experience on Monitoring and Evaluation and Results Management. Experience in organizing multilateral and multi-stakeholder meetings and workshops.
