Post doc position in intra-Articular Microparticles for the Sustained Release of anti-Inflammatory Compounds Commitment & contract: collaboration contract for an initial 2-year term, renewable for an additional 2 years Location: Genova THE ROLE You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where junior and senior scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.
The Nanotechnology for Precision Medicine Research Unit is coordinated by Paolo Decuzzi.
The successful candidate will also collaborate with researchers from the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, led by Dr. Lara Longobardi.
The research activity is sponsored by a NIH R01 grant and a MSCA RISE project "MEPHOS".
This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection between different disciplines, including nanotechnology, drug delivery, and chronic inflammatory diseases.
The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the fabrication, in-vitro characterization, and preclinical validation of biodegradable polymer microparticles for the intra-articular, sustained delivery of therapeutic combinations, including small molecules, proteins, and antibodies.
Within the research team, your main responsibility as postdoctoral fellow will be to conduct research on the fabrication, physico-chemical, and preclinical characterization of polymeric, shape-defined microparticles for the intra-articular sustained delivery of various compounds for the treatment of osteoarthritis.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS PhD in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, or related disciplines; Documented experience in the fabrication and characterization of drug delivery systems; Experience with mammalian cell culture; Ability to design and conduct experiments independently; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to properly organize, present and report research data in fluent English.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS Expertise with small animal models; Strong motivation to learn new techniques and methodologies; Willingness to conduct research activities at UNC for short periods of time; Ability to work in a challenging and international environment; Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment; Possess Analytical Reasoning skills and a growth mindset.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE Private health care coverage depending on your role and contract.
Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried scientific research activity permanently abroad and meet specific requirements may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years.
This open position is financed by the NIH UNC-IIT R01 grant.
