Post-Doc Position On Sustainable Organic Artificial Synapses
Job Description - Post-doc position on Sustainable Organic Artificial Synapses (2400004Y) Post-doc position on Sustainable Organic Artificial Synapses - ( 2400004Y ) Project: EIC Pathfinder Challenges Project "Green materials for neurOMorphic signal processing by organic synaptic" - GreenOMorph Commitment & contract: collaboration contract, 1 year contract extendable up to ~ 3. 5 years Location: Center for Nano Science and Technology of IIT, Milan, Italy WHO WE ARE At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society.
Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.
This post-doctoral position is offered at the Center for Nano Science and Technology, in Milan, within the Printed and Molecular Electronics Research Unit ( https://www.iit. it/web/printed-and-molecular-electronics ) led by Dr. Mario Caironi.
YOUR TEAM You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where materials scientists, electrical engineers, nanotechnologists and chemists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.
The Printed and Molecular Electronics Research Unit is coordinated by Dr. Mario Caironi, who has extensive experience in printed organic electronics, with a specific focus on sustainability.
The research will be part of an ambitious European research project "GreenOMorph", which aims at the radical reduction of the environmental impact of electronics manufacture, use and end-of-life as well as a total avoidance of critical raw materials in manufactured devices.
Such goal will be achieved, on the one hand, by choosing neuromorphic instead of common Von Neumann computing reducing the energy consumed by several orders of magnitude; on the other hand, by completely relying on organic electronics with innovative green materials and additive low-temperature coating and printing methods, in all parts of an organic artificial sensory neuron for recognition of tactile pressure patterns.
The project is coordinated by the Joanneum Research center in Austria, and sees the collaboration of 6 leading European partners.
The post-doc at IIT will specifically focus on inkjet printed organic artificial synapses based on organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) made with new green active materials.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Exploring different device architectures and concepts for the realization of an organic artificial synapse Demonstrating inkjet printed neuromorphic electronic devices based on OECTs integrating newly developed and sustainable organic semiconductors Demonstrating that such sustainable neuromorphic devices provide plasticity to the afferent nerve Coordinating with the project partners involved in the artificial synapse development Communicating your results in oral and written form This open position is financed by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) within the project "Green materials for neurOMorphic signal processing by organic synaptic" – GreenOMorph, financed within the EIC Pathfinder Challenges "Responsible Electronics" under Grant Agreement n. 101161637 WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU SHINE A PhD in Electronics, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or Engineering (Energy, Physics, Chemistry, Materials, Electronics) Proven experimental expertise in organic electronics device fabrication Solid knowledge in electrical characterization of transistors, in particular OECTs Expertise in the use of inkjet printing Strong publication record in the field Ability to properly report, organize and publish research data Good command in spoken and written English Strong problem-solving attitude EXTRA AWESOME Experience in inkjet printing inks formulations.
