YOUR TEAM You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where computational scientists from physics, chemistry, and engineering collaborate to carry out common research.
The position is in the Computational mOdelling of NanosCalE and bioPhysical sysTems – (CONCEPT) Research Line coordinated by Dr. Walter Rocchia, with strong internal collaboration with the Atomistic Simulation line of Prof. Michele Parrinello, and the Computational Statistics and Machine Learning line of Dr. Massimiliano Pontil.
The research focuses on predictive, machine-learning-enabled methods to accelerate the solution of specific partial differential equations for biophysical quantities, particularly equations for calculating electrostatic interactions in the continuum dielectric framework.
Your main responsibilities will be: Identify machine learning approaches to achieve the given goal.
Perform a feasibility study to estimate the most effective approach.
Collaborate on the implementation of this approach.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS A PhD in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, or similar disciplines.
Documented experience in machine learning and/or biophysical modeling.
Strong publication record.
Ability to report, organize and publish research data.
Experience in coaching junior scientists.
Good command of spoken and written English.
Proven programming capabilities.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS Experience in mathematical solutions of partial differential equations, FEM, and similar methods.
Knowledge of molecular-level biological systems modeling.
Good communication skills.
Strong problem-solving attitude.
High motivation to learn.
Spirit of innovation and creativity.
Good time and priority management.
Ability to work in a challenging and international environment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
