PostDoc Researcher in Retinal spectroscopy PostDoc Researcher in Retinal spectroscopy The Group of microscopy and super resolution in IIT-CLNS is hiring a new Postdoc researcher to be dedicated to the "Retinal Hyperspectral Imaging" research line.
The eye is an open window to the central nervous system, enabling access the retina noninvasively.
The project aims to the realization of an instrument for the spectral characterization of the "fundus" of the human eye.
The new instrument will be part of a multi-observable measurement platform aimed to work as a biosensor for a plethora of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
In particular it is known that tau protein aggregates in the AD early stage, producing Rayleigh scattering and thus enhancing reflectance at high frequency (small wavelengths).
The instrument will be preliminarily tested with the spectral characterization of phantom and explanted (human and swine) eyes and then optimized for the in-vivo operation on human patients.
By synchronizing the sensor, actuators and illumination, we plan to characterize spatially and spectrally all the areas of the eye retina.
In a second stage, the hyperspectral signal, combined to other measurements, will be analysed in a machine learning environment to design a specific set of observables enabling the early diagnosis of the AD.

Strong background in Optics and electronics.
Previous experience with microscopy, light scattering, photodetection.
PhD in Physics, Biophysics, (Electrical) Engineering or a related discipline
Experience in Spectroscopy, Gratings, and geometrical optics
High motivation and creative temper
Inclination to teamwork in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment, availability ot interact with both experimental and theoretical scientists.
Specific Requirements Additionally the required skills are:
Advanced data analysis capability with MATLAB, Phyton or similar languages.
Familiarity with machine learning
Experience in instrument design and synchronization with LabVIEW is welcome.
Expertise and handling of adaptive optical devices
