**THE ROLE
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where junior and senior scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.
The Biologic Materials Research Unit is coordinated by Prof. Paolo Antonio Netti. The research focuses on the development and characterization of biofabricated constructs for tissue regeneration, with a particular emphasis on creating in vitro models that replicate complex tissue environments. This includes investigating the electrophysiological properties of neural constructs to understand neuronal behavior in both healthy and neurodegenerative states.
The post-doctoral position is part of the project "Correlating Multifunctional Signals in 3D Printed Neurochips for Studies on Neural Degeneration (COMBO)". The COMBO project aims to develop a multifunctional platform to study neurodegeneration by integrating 3D brain-on-chip systems with high-density micro-electrode array (HD-MEAs) and Raman spectroscopy. The goal is to simultaneously monitor neural activity and molecular changes into disease mechanisms and supporting the development of new therapeutic approaches.
Within the research team, your main responsibilities will be:
- studying the electrophysiological properties of neurons using HD-MEA Devices: perform detailed electrical recordings of 2D neuronal cultures and 3D brain-on-chip models using HD-MEA technology, with the goal of characterizing electrophysiological properties in both healthy and diseased states;
- signal analysis and interpretation: conduct a detailed analysis of electrophysiological signals recorded with HD-MEAs to identify patterns and biomarkers linked to neurodegenerative processes. Advanced signal processing techniques will be employed to interpret complex datasets and establish correlations between electrophysiological responses and molecular alterations.
**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioelectronics, Neuroelectronics or a related field.
- Documented experience in electrophysiology, specifically with the use of HD MEA, and in neural cell culture
- Strong publication record
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
**ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Experience with Maxwell or 3Brain systems
- Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, and specialized electrophysiology analysis tools
- Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
- Capacity to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
- Strong analytical reasoning skills and a growth mindset
**COMPENSATION PACKAGE
- A yearly gross salary ranging between €30. 000 and €35. 000
- Private health care coverage depending on your role and contract
