Join Caracol and be part of a diverse, talented team pushing the boundaries of additive manufacturing and shaping a more sustainable future BUILD BEYOND POSSIBLE, WITH ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING Who we are looking for: As a Process R&D Specialist, you will have the chance to advance Caracol's WAAM technologies. This role focuses on optimizing Directed Energy Deposition (DED) processes, particularly Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). You will be responsible for sensor selection and integration, AI-driven process control, and real-time monitoring to enhance process stability, quality, and automation. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of AI-driven process automation in metal additive manufacturing, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in industrial-scale AM solutions. Few examples of responsibilities: WAAM sensors management: Select, integrate, and optimize sensors (e. g. , thermal imaging, acoustic emission, laser scanning, optical cameras, electrical sensors) for real-time process monitoring and control on WAAM technology machines. Data collection and analysis : Plan and execute validation runs to assess sensor integration, real-time monitoring, and AI-driven process adjustments, while developing AI-based control algorithms to reduce defects and improve consistency. Establish data acquisition frameworks, analyze and visualize data, and develop statistical models for process insights. Reporting and stakeholder management: Prepare and present technical reports and presentations on findings and progress and engage in frequent and interdisciplinary collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Ideal Background: Academic background: Degree in Automation, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering (or a related field). Professional background: 2 to 6 years of experience with data acquisition and signal processing via LabVIEW. Experience in Robotic or Additive Manufacturing field is considered a plus. Mandatory Hard skills: Experience in process monitoring, automation, and real-time control in manufacturing processes. Knowledge of metallurgy and material behaviour in Metal Additive Manufacturing is considered a plus. Mandatory Soft skills: Project Management Skills: Strong organizational skills, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach. Teamworking : Excellent skills in teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration, showing adaptability and flexibility. Language : High proficiency in English (level C1) is mandatory. Proficiency in Italian is a plus.
