Work location: Remote work with availability for in-person meetings at Oikos' headquarters in Milan and travel to the province of Varese (IT) and Canton Ticino (CH) for attendance at meetings. Compensation and contract type: Co. co. co contract, gross annual salary between €22. 000 – €25. 000, to be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. Job DescriptionWe are looking for a highly motivated individual with strong teamwork skills and a background in environmental sciences, particularly in biodiversity management and conservation. The selected candidate will lead the technical and administrative management of a 30-month Interreg Italy- Switzerland project focused on the management and restoration of the Ticino River ecosystems.
He/she will work within the "Environmental Programmes Italy-Europe-Mediterranean" unit of Istituto Oikos, closely collaborating with the team. The project foresees the coordination of five Italian partners (public entities, third-sector organizations, and private companies) and the liaison with the Swiss partnership, consisting of four partners led by the Bolle di Magadino Foundation.
The selected person will integrate into an already cohesive partnership, facilitating processes among stakeholders and ensuring compliance with project timelines. The project aims to achieve coordinated management of transboundary biodiversity along the Ticino River Ecological Corridor, a vast area shared by Piedmont, Lombardy, and Canton Ticino, which includes both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems linked to the river. Key ResponsibilitiesThis position requires expertise in the technical-administrative management of multi-stakeholder projects, coordination of complex partnership networks, and representation in international settings. Main responsibilities include: Overseeing the project implementation, ensuring compliance with donor procedures and adherence to all technical, financial, and administrative standards, in line with Istituto Oikos' internal procedures. Ensuring that project activities are carried out effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with the project's objectives and timeline. Managing the project budget carefully, applying organizational procedures and EU regulations. Maintaining transparent and effective communication with project partners. Liaising with the project donor, participating in coordination meetings, and promoting the project within major Alpine biodiversity conservation, landscape restoration, and ecological network forums. Contributing to the definition of new projects and the long-term strategy for the intervention area. Essential RequirementsMaster's degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Natural Sciences, Forestry, Environmental Engineering, or related fields. At least 3 years of experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects in the environmental sector. Familiarity with administrative and financial management of projects. Strong representation and relationship-building skills at various levels. Fluent in Italian and English. Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience: in designing and/or implementing environmental restoration activities, especially related to freshwater ecosystems; in partnership networking; in biodiversity management and conservation activities, especially in the wildlife sector.
