Organizational Setting This position is located in the Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. Reporting Lines The Project Officer (Project Coordinator) reports to the Director, Support Mechanism of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. Technical Focus The Project Officer (Project Coordinator) will support the implementation of the Support Mechanism with a focus on project coordination and management. Key Results Research, technical analysis and project-related services to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services. Key Functions Researches and analyses technical-related issues on the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; assists in the review of relevant documents and reports. Produces a variety of technical information, data, statistics and documents as well as technical input for reports and web pages. Provides technical support/analysis to various assessments, studies and projects and provides technical backstopping to field projects. Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes, and databases. Oversees the updating of databases and web pages. Participates in multidisciplinary teams, and/or leads working groups/teams; collaborates with other divisions and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices. Collaborates in, provides technical backstopping to and ensures the quality/effectiveness of capacity development activities within Alliance Members. Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations. Performs other duties as required. Specific Functions Develops a comprehensive work plan, including key milestones, deliverables, tasks, timelines and resource allocation, for the successful coordination of the Global Alliance Policy Basket support. Collaborates with relevant stakeholders, such as Procurement Service, Legal Office and Finance Division, to ensure the smooth execution of any tender processes. Monitors project progress against the established plan, identifying any deviations, risks, or obstacles that may impact the timely and successful completion of deliverables. Communicates proactively with project team members and stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of project objectives, tasks and deadlines. Coordinates and leads regular meetings, providing updates on project status, discussing key issues and facilitating decision-making processes. Acts as a focal point for project-related communication, managing stakeholder expectations and promptly addressing any concerns or inquiries. Prepares and presents regular project status reports to the Director of the Secretariat and other Support Mechanism offices. Undertakes any other assignments related to the implementation of the Terms of Reference of the GAAHP. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Minimum Requirements • Advanced university degree in business administration or public administration, social science, political science, international development, international relations or a related field. • Five years of relevant experience in project or programme management, administration or related area. • Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish). Technical/Functional Skills • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions. • Extent and relevance of experience in the field of administration, human resources, finance and management. • Extent and relevance of experience in programme/project formulation, analysis, planning and implementation. • Extent of knowledge of planning and budgetary processes and associated tools. • Experience with monitoring and evaluation and results-based management.
