Department: Public Safety Job Summary: Public Safety Officers foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors across all St. John's University campuses.
They report directly to Supervisors and do not manage a staff.
Essential Functions: Respond to all calls for assistance including crimes in progress, past crimes, vehicle accidents, personnel injuries, medical cases, fires, and alarms.
Render first aid, CPR, and utilize Automated External Defibrillator.
Operate a patrol vehicle safely in areas of high pedestrian traffic.
Conduct field investigations concerning violations of law and University policy, gather information, and prepare reports.
Engage with various campus community departments regarding security concerns.
Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, scooter, or vehicle.
Participate in crime prevention and community policing activities.
Be mindful of current crime trends and take appropriate action to deter such activity.
Direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic and enforce campus parking regulations.
Perform general security services, including locking and unlocking buildings.
Assist students with escorts due to injury or accessibility issues.
Assist motorists with battery, tire, or door lock problems.
Perform campus access control in security kiosks.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Customer service oriented and willing to assist people in need.
Certified in administering CPR or First Aid.
Respond to routine and emergency calls for service.
Ability to patrol on foot, bicycle, scooter, or in a patrol vehicle.
Ability to climb stairs, stand or sit for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Must work during emergencies and outdoor conditions.
Expected Hours of Work: Open shifts include: 3:00pm to 11:00pm, 11:00pm to 7:00am Travel: May be asked to work at any of our branch campuses within the US.
Required Education and Experience: Minimum of 5 years security experience preferred.
New York State Fire Guard License to be obtained within six months of employment.
High School diploma or equivalent; college degrees preferred.
Current New York State Security guard license and clean motor vehicle operator's license required.
Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
Ability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Other Duties: Work operational and special event overtime assignments as required.
Shift hours may change to meet department requirements.
During emergencies, may be required to stay past assigned hours.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly salary for this position is $24. 00/hr.
