Quality Development Engineer

Position Overview
In this role you will be leading and coordinating APQP, production launch activities, customer meetings and visits related to new product introduction and complex change management. The Quality Development Engineer (QDE) ensures that newly developed products meet or exceed required quality standards, while ensuring efficiency and innovation in the development process. This role involves a constant balance between meeting quality expectations and introducing new technologies or processes to improve the final product.
Position Responsibilities Participation in Product Development: Actively collaborate with the product development team, providing technical input to ensure quality from the early stages of design. Lead internal APQP activities, actively participate in Design-, Process-, System FMEAs, develop and implement production control plans for make items. Leads the handover activities at production launch to the relevant operations/manufacturing teams. Customer Relationship: Leads the customer APQP activities, reviews and collects the cross functional inputs to the customer PPAP and submits to the customer. Manages the customer PPAP submission to sign off. Supplier Relationship: Leads the supplier APQP activities, and manages the supplier PPAP to sign off. Problem Solving: Lead the problem solving of non-conformities arising during the development projects, using the 8D methodology and leading the cross functional team to drive problem resolution and disposition of non-conforming material. Risk Assessment and Management: Identify and evaluate potential quality risks during the development process and propose solutions to mitigate them. Quality Control and Testing: Ensure that products undergo the required testing, including testing for durability, functionality, and compliance with standards. Standards and Regulations: Maintain compliance with internal, external and customer quality standards. Process Optimization: Suggest and implement improvements in development processes to increase efficiency and reduce quality defects. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Working closely with other departments, such as Engineering, Manufacturing, and Plant Quality, to ensure that the final product meets market expectations. Training and Guidance: Provide training and technical support to staff to ensure that quality standards are understood and enforced. Position Requirements Bachelor's degree in engineering field and 3-4 years of equivalent experience. Demonstrable knowledge of manufacturing process and production equipment. Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to write technical documents. Knowledge of quality system methodologies. Ability to interpret engineering drawings. Fluent in Italian and English in written and spoken. Strong knowledge of New Product Development, APQP, and PPAP methodologies. Strong knowledge of PPAP, MSA, FMEA, SPC and 8D Methods. Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office, Minitab. Experience with statistical problem solving (Red X, DFSS, DOE, DMAIC). IATF 16949 and CSR knowledge. Familiar with conducting process capability study and capacity assessment. Key Personal Traits Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask. Works well in a multi-cultural team environment and fosters cross functional team work. Good soft skills (communication, negotiation & influencing), networker. Added Bonus If You Have Automotive manufacturing experience, working directly for an Automotive OEM or Automotive Supplier. Audit experience; internal and/or external Auditor. Experience / Certification in CQI audit is an asset. Experience leveraging Design and Process FMEA outputs to develop robust systems. Experience with coating and plating of metal and inspection methods. Experience with cleanliness process (VDA 19 is preferred). Working experience in Metrology lab: Inspection Method and Equipment.
