R&D/Technical Service Specialist
The Dow Polyurethane Systems business has an open position for a Technical Service and Development Engineer to join the Polyurethanes Industrial Markets segment.
The position is based in Correggio, Italy.
The main responsibilities will be in the technology area of solid Polyurethane, i. e.
Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, Elastomers and Composites materials, from new products development to technical assistance to customers in EMEAI region.
**Key Responsibilities
- Project initiation, lab development, scale-up and launch to market of non-foam polyurethane materials and Composites
- Develop and improve existing products, in alignment with marketing strategy
- Generate and develop innovative ideas and file proprietary technology patents
- Manage the development projects through all the stages, from the lab ideation to field testing at customer plants
- Characterize materials through material performance testing
- Report and document project outcomes and communicate effectively with different business functions
- Uses expertise to develop value-creating solutions and/or products for the customers.
- Consistently applies the scientific method to solve technical problems.
- Recognizes patentable ideas, participates on patent teams and generates critical data.
Takes the lead in initiating confidentiality agreements with customers and patent disclosures to protect Dow's intellectual capital.
- Serves as peer coach and provides constructive advice on projects within the team.
- Leads technical sub teams and defines scope of the larger project space.
- Modifies communication appropriately to both internal and external audiences.
- Communicates and appropriately documents work in the form of internal reports/ROC's/presentations and external publications/presentations (when appropriate).
Draft and submit patent disclosures as appropriate.
- Serves on multi-disciplinary project teams to collaborate, provide technical input, and deliver results aligned with team deliverables.
**Our Requirements
- A minimum of MSc in chemistry, polymer science, industrial chemistry, material science, chemical engineering or material engineering; PhD is a plus
- Experience in polymer chemistry (synthesis/characterization) and/or formulation science is preferred
- Experience in polyurethane chemistry and processing is a plus
- Experience in Composites materials is highly valued
- Ability to work in international teams, communicate and build networks across geographies and cultures
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
- Strong desire to develop operation skills (from laboratory scale to large-scale prototyping in dedicated facilities), grow professionally and deal with complex work challenges
- Knowledge of design of experiment technique and/or statistical analysis of datasets is an asset
- IT and communication skills are required
- Fluent English is essential, other European language is a plus
