Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) organization is looking for a passionate, results-oriented WHS Program Manager, Technical SME to lead our High-Risk Operations program, supporting our Reliability & Maintenance Engineering organization (RME) across AMET (Africa, Middle East & Turkey).
The successful candidate will lead, support and provide technical SME advice on High-Risk Operations (HRO) Program development and deployment across the region and work collaboratively with RME leadership, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure safe work practices and compliant workplaces consistent with Amazon WW WHS requirements.
This role has a multi-country/location scope to provide technical support and drive implementation of WHS programs that encourage high engagement across all levels, drive risk reduction projects, and deliver sustainable continuous performance improvements within a high-risk work environment. You will demonstrate a passion and deep technical knowledge and expertise in the field of Reliability & Maintenance Engineering and best practice safety standards, management systems, and local regulations.
This role requires travel approximately 40% of the time, based in Dubai.
Key job responsibilities: Establish partnerships with RME leadership and work closely with country and site WHS teams. Identify systemic gaps, provide technical advice, and serve as a subject matter expert for HRO programs, deploying practical solutions. Work with stakeholders to continuously improve HRO Program requirements; effective deployment of standards and procedures, risk management and mitigation actions, incident management, inspection, audit & program assurance, training & communication. Support RME Leadership in engaging with technicians and contractors, encouraging active involvement through defined expectations and ownership, and escalating safety issues using stop work authority. Leverage WHS programs to define risk mitigation actions along with RME leadership to drive risk reduction and program improvement. Invent and simplify new ways to raise awareness and capabilities of the regional and country RME teams to effectively mitigate risks. Support Contract Risk Management (CRM) program, ensuring effective program deployment at site and contractor compliance with regulatory and Amazon WHS policy requirements. A day in the life:
You will be responsible for driving the regional WHS program deployment and continuous improvement ensuring the safety and well-being of our technicians, associates, and third-party partners. You will work across the Amazon business units to understand the RME operational risks and support the leadership teams in identifying, developing, and deploying high-risk mitigation actions and processes, identifying new technology solutions, and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to continuously "raise the bar" and deliver results.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's Degree in safety or related engineering or science, from an accredited university.
- 8+ years' experience in WHS, ideally supporting high-risk operations.
- Ability to interface at all levels of leadership and across field organizations.
- Diagnose problems, identify and drive appropriate solutions, demonstrate problem-solving and analytical capability, act decisively, promptly, and confidently.
- Highly developed written & verbal communication skills, analytical ability, dive deep problem-solving, and agility to function in a fast-paced and innovative environment.
- Experience in program implementation or managing contractors in the following programs: Fall Hazard Control, Electrical Safe Work, Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO), Conveyors & Machine Safeguarding, Confined Spaces, Hot Work and System Impairment, Fire Protection Systems, PIT / aerial lifts, Cranes, Hoisting & Rigging.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Master's degree in a related field and have or working towards recognized safety certifications.
- Working knowledge of regional regulatory requirements and standards (ISO, etc. ).
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability with experience in technical, standards, or program writing.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certified or equivalent.
- Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments.
