Organizational SettingThe Land and Water Division (NSL) aims at enhancing agricultural productivity and advancing the sustainable use of land and water resources. It addresses the challenges member countries face in ensuring productive and efficient use of land and water resources to meet present and future demands for agricultural products while ensuring long-term sustainability.
Reporting LinesUnder the overall supervision of the Director NSL, Land and Water Division, with technical supervision from the Senior Officer of the Geospatial Unit.
Technical FocusGeographic Information Systems/Remote Sensing.
Tasks and ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will undertake the following tasks:
Provide technical assistance in the use of GIS/RS in support of project teams and national and regional offices. Conduct technical assessments and identify suitable satellite imagery and geospatial datasets. Assist in developing solutions using geospatial technologies for land and water monitoring. Support satellite image pre-processing and monitoring land cover according to international standards. Assist in developing innovative tools using cloud-computing platforms and AI/ML/RS/GIS. Contribute to national capacity development by preparing guidance on geospatial information. Assist in the development and publication of geospatial datasets. Support innovation in data collection through integrated approaches. Collate, standardize, analyze, and report geospatial data and metadata. Prepare training and workshop materials. Disseminate geospatial data and prepare technical reports. Perform any other tasks required. Minimum RequirementsUniversity degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Sciences or related field. At least 2 years of experience in spatial data handling and analysis, or at least five years for middle level COF/PSA. Working knowledge of English, French, or Spanish. Selection CriteriaKnowledge of programming languages such as R and Python for GIS/RS. Experience in international organizations and projects supporting developing countries. Experience in satellite image analysis and geospatial data management. Experience on cloud-computing platforms. Capacity to report results to different audiences.
