Research work in our laboratory integrates basic and clinical research through a translational approach.
Our research work is devoted to i) unravel the mechanisms at the basis of myelin formation and maintenance in the nerve and to ii) interfere with these mechanisms and pathways to ameliorate human diseases of the nervous system (for reference: Bolino et al. , Neurotherapeutics 2021).
further clarifying how lipid-mediated cytoskeleton remodeling and myelin synthesis control myelin growth in the nerve (Guerrero-Valero et al. , PNAS 2021);
decreasing PIKfyve lipid kinase activity to ameliorate aberrant myelin and fiber degeneration in inherited peripheral neuropathy models (Guerrero-Valero et al. , PNAS 2021; Sawade et al. , Nature Communications 2020).
