About Nerviano Medical Sciences (NMS) At Nerviano Medical Sciences (NMS), we are Italy's largest oncology-focused R&D company and one of Europe's leading players in cancer research. Located at the innovative Nerviano BioPark near Milan, NMS integrates cutting-edge technology, a rich scientific heritage, and an unwavering commitment to improving patients' lives. Our Bioassay Lab is at the forefront of small molecule drug discovery, driving innovation to deliver impactful therapies for oncology patients worldwide. Position Overview The Bioassay Lab at NMS is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to contribute to the design, development, and validation of innovative biochemical and cellular assays. This "hands-on" laboratory-based position will play a pivotal role in high-throughput screening (HTS) and small molecule profiling, focusing on enzymology and mechanistic studies to advance oncology research. The successful candidate will have a strong background in biochemical assay development, automation, and miniaturization, with expertise in NanoBRET assays and Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). Key Responsibilities Strategic Contributions: Design, develop, and validate biochemical kinetic and binding assays to support hit identification and compound profiling. Optimize in vitro assays for sensitivity, specificity, and high-throughput compatibility, including miniaturization and use of automated platforms (e. g. , Biacore/SPR). Evaluate small molecule mechanisms of action, including cooperativity, competitive/non-competitive inhibition, residence time, Kon, Koff, and covalent mechanisms. Actively contribute to oncology drug discovery programs, proposing novel assays and experiments. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Protein Science and Cell Biology groups to integrate assays into discovery pipelines. Interpret, summarize, and present results to multidisciplinary project teams. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align assay development with project goals. Operational Excellence: Document and maintain accurate records of assay protocols and experimental data. Ensure compliance with best practices and quality standards in assay development. Qualifications and Requirements Education: Ph. D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field. Experience and Skills: Over 3 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. Expertise in biochemical assay design and development, including enzymatic and binding assays (e. g. , SPR/Biacore, FRET, FP, TRF, ELISA, AlphaScreen). Proficiency in assay miniaturization and automation techniques. Knowledge of data analysis tools (e. g. , GraphPad Prism, SigmaPlot, Excel, Spotfire). Strong oral and written communication skills, including documentation of experimental procedures. Highly organized, with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning. Languages: English (Oral and written), Italian is considered a plus Why Join NMS?
