Posting Context StatementThis research-focused role involves developing and promoting best practices for managing grapevine trunk diseases in Idaho.
Key responsibilities include preparing standard solutions, performing molecular testing (e. g. , qPCR, PCR), isolating fungi and bacteria, and contributing to research design discussions.
The role also requires maintaining accurate records, developing laboratory protocols, and ensuring lab safety.
Additional tasks include writing reports and extension bulletins, presenting findings at professional meetings, and assisting with fieldwork.
Position OverviewPerforms research activities and analysis, recording observations and measurements, and reports results.
Participates in analyzing and preparing results for publication.
Works under general supervision.
Duties may include:Preparing standard solutions for calibration and analysesInterpreting test results and comparing with determined standards and limitsCollecting laboratory or field dataConducting research and analysis of scientific dataPerforming literature reviewsPreparing reportsComparing data and historical records for trend verificationDeveloping reference files, comparison charts, and graphs on research dataAssisting with site inspections and field oversightFollowing pre-established procedures or protocolsCollecting and reviewing scientific dataKeeping complete and accurate recordsWorking in a team environmentRequired EducationBachelor's Degree in Biology, Agriculture or related sciencesRequired OtherMust have a valid driver's license and be able to successfully pass a driver's record checkWillingness to travel within western and eastern Idaho and neighboring regionsWillingness to work irregular hours when requiredAdditional PreferredMaster's degree in Plant Pathology, Biology or related sciencesTwo years of research experienceExperience in scientific principles and conducting laboratory experiments; keeping accurate records; working in the field; working in a greenhouse; and working in a laboratoryPhysical Requirements & Working ConditionsMust be able to lift, carry or otherwise move heavy materials weighing up to 50 poundsDegree RequirementListed degree qualification is required at time of application.
