Rotating Parts Design Manager
Job Description Summary**: At Avio Aero, a GE Aviation Business unit, we've been reimagining the power of flight for more than 100 years.
We are specialized in the design, production and maintenance of components and systems for the civil and military aeronautical industry.
We are looking for a Engineering Manager to join our exciting and dynamic Third Parties New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering team.
In this role you will lead the team of talented engineers assigned to design gears, shafts, bearings and seals of Rotorcraft Mechanical Transmission Systems meeting product requirements such as safety, performance, quality and cost.
You will also support (design wise) the Systems Engineers in conceiving new initiatives Request For Information (RFI)/ Proposal (RFP) for Helicopter's and Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) Third Parties Customers.
You will coach and inspire the team towards significant Customer impact, strengthening our leadership in the aeronautic gearbox market leveraging the strategic partnership with our vertical in-house supply chain, and empowering the team to develop and contribute to our purpose.
**Essential Responsibilities**:
- Lead the team of engineers to execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned hardware such as gears, shafts, bearings and seals using engineering practices and adhering to business and product / program requirements.
This work would include the engineering effort across the whole NPI process (from concept to certification) as well as to conceive RFI/RFP for our third Parties Customers, Cost Out initiatives, development findings, components performance and investigations (test requests, test data postprocess, laboratories investigation).
- Contribute to technical feasibility studies, concept design, and design intent definition of sub-system and components identifying alternatives, agreeing upon design CTQs, scoring and down-selecting optimal solution to achieve product safety/performance/cost/weight as needed.
Contribute to capture system requirements, flow-down to components definition identifying relevant validation needs.
- Prioritization of work according to customer/business needs, connector of resources, drives self and team accountability.
Contribute to resource planning and workforce budgeting.
- Maintain broad awareness of efforts within the team to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer / program needs.
- Provide leadership to the team, promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, mentoring, coaching, and counseling.
Contribute in building and strengthening team technical knowledge expertise on assigned hardware and discipline, identify talents to grow through different career paths as per Avio Aero strategy.
- Conduct performance appraisals and participate in salary planning.
**Qualifications/Requirements**:
- Master Degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited university
- Demonstrated experience in Mechanical Design of complex products (Power or Accessory Gearboxes is a plus) with relevant work experience.
Knowledge of aeronautic rotating components technical requirements, design solutions, technologies.
- New Product Introduction process experience
- Capable to work in multicultural environment, preferable previous international experience
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Team working and inclusiveness proven capabilities.
- Clear thinking, diligent approach, target oriented
- English and Italian language knowledge, both written and oral
- EU work permit
**Desired Characteristics**:
- Prior experience in mechanical systems electrification and electrical machines integration is preferred
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
Established project management skills.
- Previous experience on rotating parts design and validation for aeronautical product
- Previous experience in manufacturing, knowledge on manufacturing processes and industrialization
- Knowledge of CAD design tools (preferable NX & Teamcenter)
- Curiosity and passion for mechanic design
- System mindset and problem solver
