Organizational SettingThe FAO Investment Centre (CFI) provides investment and finance solutions that lead to more efficient, sustainable, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems.

The post is located in the West and Central Africa Service (CFIE) of the FAO Investment Centre (CFI) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Reporting LinesThe Senior Economist reports to the Chief, West and Central Africa Service (CFIE) of the FAO Investment Centre (CFI).

Technical FocusProvide analytical, strategic and technical leadership on economic and financial themes regarding agricultural and food systems-related policies.

Key FunctionsLeads multidisciplinary teams to assist governments in identifying and preparing investment and finance support initiatives. Advises governments in the preparation of food and agriculture studies and strategies. Leads the formulation and delivery of capacity development initiatives. Prepares documents in accordance with FAO, government and financing partners' requirements. Represents the Organization at international meetings and develops effective working relationships. Leads or participates in resource mobilization activities. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWINGAdvanced university degree in economics or related field. Ten years of relevant experience in economic analysis and investment support programmes. Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO language. Technical/Functional SkillsWork experience in more than one location or area of work. Extent and relevance of experience in agrifood sector investments. Knowledge of investment criteria and procedures of international development finance institutions.
