Mechanical Engineer plays a crucial role in technical research, product development, and product improvement related to micro-articulated instrumentation dedicated to the MMI Symani Microsurgical Robot. She/he researches and develops conceptual designs, functional prototypes, and reliable functional assemblies for product integration including test procedure documentation, execution of design verification tests, and any other related technical documentation. Responsibilities:Design and testing of new articulated micro-instruments, including dimensioning and procurement of all components. Select suitable product components and suppliers. Define technical requirements, perform design risk analysis, write testing protocols, design related testing equipment, and execute performance bench tests including related documentation. Drive new projects through all stages of the NPI process meeting the requirements of performance, manufacturability, reliability, safety, and compliance to regulatory standards for Medical Devices. Update product parts to improve quality and reliability by updating drawings (tolerances and CTQ), specifications, or selecting different suppliers or manufacturing processes. Drive problem-solving processes (A3 DMAIC) to resolve everyday issues. Work closely with other members of the technical team and cross departments to ensure that all technical requirements are met and projects expedite progress. Constantly report the progress and status of their work to their line manager by sharing detailed technical reports. Job Requirements:Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Industrial Biomedical Engineering Degree. At least 8 years of experience in detailed mechanical design. Expert with Mechanical CAD Software (SolidWorks preferred). Experience with high precision micro-parts design and with micro-precision manufacturing processes for both metal and plastic, including micro-CNC, EDM, Laser, Micro-molding, Coating deposition, and Surface treatments. Experience with design of cable-driven mechanisms and high precision actuation of multi-joint end-effectors including parts structural FEM, kinematic model, and detailed dimensioning. Expert in mechanical design of micro systems (GD&T included). Professional proficiency in English. Preferred knowledge of robotic and surgical robotic systems and a multidisciplinary understanding of software control and electronics. Preferred design experience in the biomedical field or in a highly regulated environment including design control. Preferred knowledge of medical device standards (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, ISO 10993, ISO 11135). Preferred knowledge of biocompatibility, sterility, and cleaning processes.
