About Borea Therapeutics Borea Therapeutics is a gene therapy startup funded by the Sofinnova-Telethon Fund and European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). Borea has a highly innovative and proprietary technology of viral vector bio-conjugation. This platform holds the potential to transform the gene therapy field by addressing several of the current shortcomings of viral vectors. About the Role Join our team at Borea Therapeutics as a (Senior) Scientist to develop and characterize bioconjugated AAV vectors for new gene therapy applications. The role requires solid technical skills and the creativity to approach new scientific problems in a rapidly evolving field. Your responsibilities will be to: Evaluate, select, and apply AAV downstream purification techniques and optimize procedures for scale up Conduct experiments for process optimization and in support of tech transfer experiments Support other R&D activities when needed The position is based in Trieste, Italy at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), which is a scientific center of excellence within the national and international academic scene. It features an international environment with about 70 professors, 130 researchers, and 300 PhD students. What You Bring Ph. D. (or equivalent experience) in virology, biochemistry or related field Expertise with affinity columns and ion-exchange columns for the purification of viral vectors Experience with analytical methods to characterize viral vectors or biologics (e. g. Mass Photometry, Mass Spectrometry, qPCR, Spectroscopy, analytic HPLC, SDS-PAGE) Proven ability to conduct experiments for process optimization and process characterization Ability to work independently and in a team environment Attention to details, positive "can-do" attitude, flexibility to adapt to a rapidly evolving situation Hand-on experience with characterization of bioconjugated biologics (ADCs) is preferred.
