GENERAL PURPOSE
To lead the sold work engineering activities in the BWFS Italy locations, delivering equipment and aftermarket parts and upgrade solutions to our forM/Fill/seal packaging customers.
Work closely with the other engineering teams across our Division to schedule and balance the engineering workload, particularly between Italy and the UK.
Work closely with the innovation team to transfer new products from the development stage to operational status.
Work with our operations team and our customer-facing team to evaluate, estimate, and execute sales opportunities that may require some modification or customization of standard products.
RESPONSABILITIES
- Lead engineers and engineering administrative team members assigned to "sold work" activities.
- New equipment, parts, upgrades, remanufactured equipment, forming sets and associated feed system integration.
- Provide leadership transitioning innovation projects to the operations team.
- Work closely with innovation leader to develop agreed-upon processes for turnover of innovation products to the operations team.
- Help develop engineering processes needed for release and maintenance of new products.
- Work with operations leadership and the innovation project team to identify those features and modifications that will be done by the sold work engineers.
- Work closely with operations leadership to evaluate, estimate, and execute that non-standard work for opportunities that are brought by the customer-facing team.
- Opportunity Evaluation engineering effort analysis during the proposal stage.
- Customer's specification reviews during quoting and proposal stage.
- Establish engineering process metrics that measure the contributions to the business by sold work engineers.
Business system activities related to Leapfrog, new ERP system, engineering systems, CAD, EPDM, etc.
- Engineering standards creation and implementation.
- Hiring, training, evaluating, planning for retirement, and developing engineers within the sold work team.
- Guidance to engineers as related to engineering processes, performance reviews, DFMA best practices, L3 improvements.
- Provide recommendations for individual and/or group training and education opportunities as they may occur.
Provide mentoring for individual development, performance assessments and evaluations.
- Work with other leaders and team members to implement visible metrics that track the team's delivery performance for customer service quotes and orders, machine release performance, engineering accuracy and efficiency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
EXPERIENCE:
- 10 years of mechanical or electrical engineering experience showing increasing levels of complexity with demonstrable leadership responsibilities and/or broader business-wide influence.
- 3 - 5 years' experience leading a multi-discipline engineering team in the packaging or similar industry.
- Experience in DFMA, value engineering, and designing to a target cost.
- Experience in developing and implementing engineering standards, processes, and controls, including measures to see the engineering contribution to the business and to identify areas for improvement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and_ ABILITIES: _
- A recent history of increasing responsibilities and leadership within an engineering or wider technical environment.
- A disciplined, structured approach to operational engineering, supporting manufacturing and assembly, completing necessary documentation and training other engineers and technicians, supporting supply chain improvements and substitutions of parts.
- Develop engineering processes and practices that support a profitable balance of product standardization and custom solutions that meet both the company's and our customer's needs.
