Sommelier
Job purpose The Sommelier is responsible for providing exceptional wine service to members and guests at the exclusive member club.
They assist in wine selection, presentation, and service under the guidance of the Head Sommelier and Assistant Head Sommelier to enhance the overall dining experience.
Main Activities and Responsibilities: Assist in maintaining the wine inventory, including restocking, rotating bottles, and ensuring proper storage conditions.
Greet guests and present the wine list, providing recommendations and assisting with selections based on preferences and menu offerings.
Open, pour, and serve wine for guests, ensuring proper serving temperatures and glassware are used.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine service area, including polishing glassware and decanters.
Assist in setting up and breaking down tables for service, including arranging wine glasses and decanters.
Collaborate with kitchen and service staff to ensure seamless coordination of food and wine service.
Provide attentive and personalized service to guests, anticipating their needs and preferences.
Assist in processing wine orders, including recording sales and updating inventory records.
Stay informed about wine offerings, including new releases, vintages, and varietals, to provide accurate information to guests.
Assist in executing wine-related events, tastings, and promotions to enhance the club's wine program.
Manage other activities relating to or resulting from what is indicated in the previous points.
Key Competencies: Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in wine studies or hospitality preferred.
Previous experience (1-2 years) as a sommelier in a fine dining restaurant, hotel, or private club setting preferred.
Knowledge of one or more foreign languages (min.
Italian and English).
General Knowledge and Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of wine varietals, regions, and production methods.
Familiarity with wine service techniques, including opening bottles, pouring, and presenting wine.
Ability to operate POS systems and handle basic transactions.
Personal and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent customer service skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth service.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and colleagues.
Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and service.
Professional appearance and demeanor, with a passion for hospitality and a willingness to learn and grow in the role.
