Student Life Assistant - Nyu Florence

The Student Life Assistant is responsible for residence life programs and initiatives (including IDBEA), the first-year student experience, student conduct, and related student life services. The SLA participates in hiring, training, and supervising a diverse staff of student Peer Advisors, assists with organizing and facilitating check-in and orientation activities, conducts hall meetings on any community issues that arise, facilitates roommate agreements, carries out mid-semester housing reviews, and mediates conflicts and difficult conversations, including on topics of inclusion, among students. Collaboration with Facilities and Operations is essential in carrying out emergency evacuation drills and facilitating check-out from housing. The SLA maintains a safety log, monitors guard reports, tracks lockouts, and chaperones trips and events, when needed. The SLA conducts residence life and student conduct presentations and meetings, writes incident reports, processes student conduct cases, and responds to student safety situations, including missing belongings and police reports. In collaboration with student life colleagues, the SLA provides office support (responding to general inquiries, assisting with tasks, providing office coverage, etc. ), as needed. Finally, the SLA is on call on rotation, providing support and guidance to the Incident Response Assistants and responding in person when necessary.
**Principal Duties
- Conducts residence life and student conduct presentations and meetings, writes incident reports, and processes student conduct cases, and responds to student safety situations, including missing belongings and police reports;
- Assists with organizing and facilitating check-in and orientation activities, conducts hall meetings on any community issues that arise, facilitates roommate agreements, and mediates conflicts and difficult conversations, including on topics of inclusion;
- Participates in hiring and supervising a diverse staff of Peer Advisors, including monitoring performance and programming, carrying out regular meetings, and ensuring ongoing engagement and inclusive community building;
- Works closely with the Site Ambassador(s) and Liberal Studies Student Government, meeting regularly and facilitating programming and response to feedback;
- Collaborates with Facilities, OSL colleagues, and Operations on preparing housing for student arrival, reviewing rounds reports, carrying out emergency evacuation drills, mid-semester housing reviews, and facilitating check-in and check-out from housing, including luggage storage and donations;
- Develops residence life programs and initiatives (including IDBEA), chaperones trips and events, and organizes and facilitates check-in and orientation activities;
- On call on rotation, providing support and guidance to the Incident Response Assistants and responding in person when necessary;
Qualifications:
**Required Education** Bachelor's Degree
**Required Experience **1-2 years in student affairs or a related field
**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:Excellent communication skills, proficiency in written and spoken English and Italian, proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Canva, social media platforms
**Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**: Graphic and web design
