Surety Field Underwriter
Liberty Mutual Surety has an excellent opportunity for a Surety Field Underwriter with our team in Milano (Italy).
In this role, you will be responsible for soliciting, marketing, underwriting and servicing moderately complex risks for a book of business/assigned agents/brokers within the country.
This includes underwriting new and existing surety accounts in conformance with underwriting guidelines to determine if they meet risk acceptability standards and/or the strategy of the organization, assisting in the review and analysis of risks that are small to medium in size and complexity, performing financial and credit analyses of bond submissions and making recommendations/taking action as appropriate.
You are also accountable for developing and executing field marketing plan as directed and demonstrating Surety knowledge necessary to independently underwrite business.
Job ResponsibilitiesMarkets, underwrites & services moderately complex risks for a book of business, with supervision for more complex/higher risk accounts and cases.
This may include 1-3 large complex/higher risk accounts but is weighted towards moderate/lower-risk accounts.
Supports efforts to implement underwriting strategy. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and solicits surety account submissions from assigned producer/customer base via marketing efforts.
Independently & effectively calls on all producers/customers to support marketing activities & business plan development. Perform analytical evaluations of financial statements on both a static and trend basis and complex credit analysis.
Determines the present and historical financial position of the account and monitors financial position of risk through analysis of periodic statements and work in process data if appropriate. Monitors the quality of underwriting in assigned offices utilizing self-audit processes and/or other techniques. Evaluates & analyzes new surety obligations & provide management with reporting, as assigned. Typically works independently and able to develop strategies to support producer/customer efforts to increase business activities & submissions.
Serves as the trusted advisor & underwriting resource for producers, customers & territory. Meets production, marketing, and profitability goals as set by manager and assist in business development by soliciting business/submissions.
Develop a book of business to broaden the portfolio with various accounts in compliance with Underwriting Guidelines and delegated authority. May identify and escalate cross-selling opportunities to the appropriate internal product lines underwriters. Provide direction for topics to be addressed in meetings with brokers, customers, and others, as necessary. Attend industry events representing Liberty Mutual. Ensures compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance. Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and best practice methodology in order to minimise risk as incorporated into the Underwriting framework. Support Surety Attorneys, Manager, and Sr. Underwriters on the preparation of new and revised indemnity documents and reinsurance slips.
As directed, review and negotiate policy terms and conditions including assisting with the production of bond language and endorsements. Stay abreast of competitors and identify opportunities to maximize Liberty's marketplace presence. Working closely with Surety claims department and all other key internal stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of underwriting services. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned. Preparation, Training and ExperienceDegree in Business or equivalent typically required. A minimum of 2. 5 years, typically 3 or more years of surety UW experience and/or other related experience. Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility that includes competence with all phases & aspects of the underwriting process and proficiency in the use of qualitative & quantitative tools & techniques. Must demonstrate comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues. Mature and self-confident; ability to face clients, business partners and senior colleagues. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all stakeholders (brokers, clients, colleagues and other business partners), including the ability to communicate complex analysis and information in understandable written and/or oral directives to other persons and customers. Proven ability to develop strong relationships and market to external customers. Must be detail-oriented, able to manage time and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while working independently. Knowledge of regulatory and legal requirements affecting Surety industry. Fluent in local language and proficient in English (verbal and written).
Additional languages are a plus. Displays strong collaboration and team integration abilities. Profound computer skills, in particular Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
