As Sustainability Portfolio Manager for business unit Grid Automation within Hitachi Energy, you are responsible at a global level for ensuring our product offering supports customer, societal, and internal expectations for sustainability.
As a global leader in energy automation, Grid Automation delivers software, automation, communication, and battery energy storage solutions to utility and industrial customers, and our portfolio and business operations have great capabilities and potential to support sustainability in a profitable fashion.
As Sustainability Portfolio Manager, you will lead Grid Automation in realizing full potential regarding sustainability, helping to ensure our continued leadership in energy automation.
**Responsibilities**:
- Sustainability portfolio strategy: Develops and maintains a strategy addressing how to assure sustainability contributes to the profitable growth objective of the business unit, including product portfolio evolution, market participation, marketing and promotion, and partnering.
- Market situation analysis: Leads market intelligence analysis in aspects related to sustainability.
Understands and defines current market requirements, segmentation, and relevant product/system/service positioning.
Identifies potential gaps in portfolio, both against competition and evolving market opportunities.
- Actively collects and analyses market trends and competitor moves regionally and by segment in coordination with the global product managers and business intelligence specialists.
- Product management support: Provide guidelines and instructions to ensure within the global product groups compliance with respect to sustainability requirements, and to develop knowledge within the global product management community to incorporate sustainability into product lifecycle planning.
In particular, accountable to ensure that global product managers: Have awareness and instructions about requirements related to material compliance; Enact criteria, guidelines and instructions to perform Life Cycle Sustainability Assessments (LCSAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Enact guidelines on how to manage circularity and recyclability of the entire product portfolio.
- New product development: Support Global product Managers in providing guidelines and requirements related to sustainability for new product/system/service roadmaps.
Contributes to development of new portfolios and offerings related to sustainability by leading customer need and value analysis, planning the roadmap together with the global product managers to create maximum value, follow-up of product/system/service portfolio performance.
- Supports the global product groups in the prioritization of new product/system/service development projects related to sustainability.
- Owns and approves sustainability aspects considered during product/service development process stage gates.
- Accountable to provide proper guidelines to ensure that all new product development is compliant with material requirements and regulations related to sustainability and establish processes to ensure that necessary LCSAs are conducted during the development process to assess the sustainability targets defined.
- Marketing: Supports business unit marketing and communications in development of specific campaigns and collateral to promote the business unit's sustainability value proposition.
- Provides training and communication guidelines in aspects related to Sustainability for product managers, sales personnel and marketing and communications professionals.
- Process development and training: Continuously develops Sustainability guidelines, instructions, and tools, including interfaces to other key functions.
- Initiates creation of external and internal product training modules and programs related to Sustainability.
- Innovation: Supports cross functional and cross-organization product and solution innovation teams, monitors development of all standards and market trends and provides inputs to Research & Development (R&D) for patent screening process and intellectual property rights protection.
Your background
- Passion for sustainability and the role manufacturers and software companies take in meeting societal expectations for sustainability.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Studies and equivalent
- 5-10 years' experience within product management or related activities with specific experience in in Life Cycle Sustainability Assessments, environmental declarations and product
