Offer DescriptionIn this project, sustainable strategies will be implemented for the synthesis of new lignin-derived surfactants for biomedical applications.

Lignin will be extracted from waste from the Piedmontese agro-food industry and then depolymerised using innovative technologies to obtain value-added bio-aromatic compounds such as vanillin and vanillic acid.

These compounds will be used to synthesise new bio-derived surfactants for applications in gene transfection or drug delivery.

Surfactant properties will then be studied, with measurements to determine the critical micellar concentration and surface tension, and a morphological characterisation as well as a chemical-physical properties analysis will be carried out on the nanosystems containing gene material or active substances.

The biological properties will then be studied by means of transfection/cytotoxicity tests.
