Position Summary: The Department of Communication at Villanova University seeks applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2025. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching can address the connections of rhetoric, culture, and power to areas/topics such as critical race studies, feminist and queer studies, indigenous studies, and/or global perspectives. Those candidates who can contribute to Villanova's interdisciplinary areas (Africana Studies, Disability and Deaf Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, and/or Latin American Studies) are especially encouraged to apply.
With one of the largest undergraduate majors in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Department of Communication offers course work leading to the B. A. in Communication with opportunities to specialize in eight different areas of the discipline. In addition, the Department supports a thriving M. A. program in Communication. Duties and ResponsibilitiesOur new colleague will teach undergraduate and graduate courses on a 2-2 teaching load the first year of their appointment, with a transition to a 3-2 teaching load beginning in their second year. Candidates will be expected to pursue an active program of research in one or more of the areas indicated above. Service responsibilities will include student advising and mentoring, as well as curriculum development and assessment. Candidates must be willing to support the University's Strategic Plan of Inclusive Community.
Minimum QualificationsPh. D. in Communication (ABD considered; completion by August 2025) with an emphasis in critical rhetorical studies. We seek candidates whose teaching, scholarship, and service has prepared them to address systemic inequities and to contribute to our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, as demonstrated in our Department focus on communication as instrumental to the pursuit of social justice. Successful candidates will have college-level teaching experience.
