No Offer Description The aim of the project is to analyze the classic legal-historical topic of the existence of a universal merchants' law (lex mercatoria) in the Middle Ages and early modern period through the tools of historical linguistics, i. e.
by analyzing the circulation of technical-legal terms in Central Europe.
Especially important is the contact between merchants from Northern Italy (in particular Venetians) and Southern Germany in the period between the 11th and 17th centuries, but other areas of Central Europe (e. g.
France and the Netherlands) are also relevant due to their importance in international trade and the uniformity of university teaching and thus of the legal system (ius commune).
The project therefore includes the production of a 'Glossary of Medieval and Early-Modern Commercial Law Terms' and interactive digital maps of the routes that connected Venice with Northern Europe and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Selection Process The selection takes place through: a comparative evaluation of qualifications and an interview; evaluation of the scientific-professional curriculum; evaluation of scientific productivity.
Eligibility of fellows: Country/ies of residence: EUROPE Nationality/ies: EUROPE Candidates' applications will be examined by a selection board appointed by the Department Director and composed of three members belonging to the scientific area, one of them is the scientific head of the research project.
