- new_cleo is the clean and safe nuclear technology company.
Privately funded and headquartered in London, UK, newcleo was launched in 2021 to be a disruptor in the field of nuclear energy.
Its mission is to generate safe, clean and inexhaustible energy for the world, through a radically innovative combination of existing, accessible technologies.
- new_cleo is building the next generation system with the goals to: (1) eliminate the need for geological repositories by using a fast neutron flux avoiding production of long life radioactive elements; (2) develop an Accelerator Driven System (ADS), based on the intrinsically safe coupling of a particle accelerator and a sub-critical reactor; (3) accelerate the development of new fuel cycles, including thorium, that provide economic, clean, safe and inexhaustible energy from nuclei and the opportunity to burn the long-lived nuclear waste produced by the old generation of nuclear reactors.
With visionary co-founders, - _new_cleo wants to be the first step toward the evolution of its industry to become fully respectful of people and the environment.
To develop a new, sustainable, and completely safe way of generating nuclear energy that will lead humanity to zero emissions, and to the mitigation of global warming. To collaborate to the LFR basic design and safety assessment activities, focusing on system thermal hydraulic aspects.
**Main Responsibilities**:
- Designs, models, and analyses thermal hydraulic systems, with particular emphasis on 1D steady-state and transient modelling of nuclear reactor primary and secondary cooling systems, both in normal and off-normal conditions
- Performs code validation and benchmarking activities
- Performs engineering analysis, which can include thermal, fluid, safety, manufacturability, and costs
- Collaborates cross-functionally to define design requirements, and provides technical feedback to quick-iterating design teams
- Couples systems-level analyses with high fidelity thermal-hydraulic analyses (e. g. , CFD)
- Documents activities using modern tools and techniques, and write well-written, thoughtful technical reports
**Desired Qualifications**:
Timely management of key deliverables and tasks respecting deadlines with high quality output.
**Ideal Background**:
**Education**: Degree in Nuclear Engineering or Nuclear Physics
Master or PhD is a plus
**Languages**: Fluent Italian and English
**Experience / Professional requirements**:
- Good knowledge of design and analysis principles for large or complex thermal-hydraulic systems
- Understanding of analytical techniques and relevant design codes
- Experience with at least one of the 1D system thermal-hydraulic codes typically used for nuclear reactor safety assessment
- Ability to participate in team meetings and give technical presentations
- Great mathematical and analytical skills
- Competency with modern software engineering practices and programming languages.
