Trainee in the Field of Machine Learning for Optimizing E-Mobility InfrastructureBozen/Bolzano internshipInstitute for Renewable EnergyShort Description Of The PositionThe Institute for Renewable Energy at Eurac Research (Research Group for Energy System Modeling and E-Mobility) offers an internship for a motivated master's student with a background in Data Science, Machine Learning, or Intelligent Systems.
The trainee will apply advanced machine learning techniques to optimize e-mobility infrastructure, focusing on charging station placement and e-car-sharing distribution.
This hands-on research opportunity provides valuable experience in sustainable mobility, geospatial modeling, and data-driven decision-making within an interdisciplinary research environment. TasksThe work will focus on the development and application of machine learning models to electromobility infrastructure.
The following topics can be addressed:TOPIC 1: Location Optimization of Charging StationsDevelopment of a machine-learning-based decision model for the location optimization of charging stations in Northern Italy. Analysis of traffic data and forecasts for the spread of electric vehicles. Consideration of location factors such as traffic flow, competitive situation, and future market developments. Evaluation of the profitability of new charging stations through AI-supported modeling. TOPIC 2: Distribution Optimization of E-Car-Sharing StationsMachine-learning-based modeling of the optimal distribution of e-car-sharing stations in South Tyrol. Use of historical usage data and urban factors to forecast demands. Development of a data-driven decision tool for strategic expansion. EXPECTED RESULTSCreation of machine learning models for the location analysis of charging and/or e-car-sharing stations. Visualization of optimal locations using geospatial modeling. Integration of economic factors to evaluate the profitability of new infrastructure locations. RequirementsStudies in Machine Learning, Intelligent Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge of machine learning. Experience with Python and libraries. Interest in sustainable mobility and geodata analysis. Very good oral and written communication skills in English; knowledge of Italian and/or German is an advantage. Strong teamwork abilities, interpersonal relationships, and capacity for autonomous work. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data processing is an advantage.
