The incumbent is responsible for posting complex journal entries that require the use of specialized accounting procedures, reviewing and approving financial documents in wvOASIS, assisting the supervisor in preparing agency budgets, and examining records to assure adherence to accounting laws and regulations.
Performs related work as required. Pay Grade: 16Typical Duties and ResponsibilitiesClassifies/codes a variety of transactions which require considerable knowledgeReview and approve financial documents in wvOASISComplex reconciliations, transfers funds, and balances multiple accountsExamines accounting records to assure adherence to accounting laws and regulations; verifies calculations and ensures accuracy and validity of transactionsPrepares and illustrates specialized statements and reports which reflect the relationships among accounts and which require steady searching and analysisMakes complex journal entries and other transactions which require use of specialized accounting proceduresAssists supervisor in preparing budget by compiling data, preparing summaries and requests, and/or developing cost projectionsContacts associates and administrators to resolve problems with more complex accountsMakes recommendations on the development or revision of agency policies and proceduresMay assign account/department codesTrain, lead, and/or review work of subordinate staffTravel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is requiredRequired Skills and KnowledgeKnowledge of account laws and regulations of agencyKnowledge of basic mathematical computationsKnowledge of automated computer systemsAbility to detect and correct errors in arithmetic or to refer to proper source for correctionAbility to gather and compile data for use in financial reportsAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with othersRequired Education and ExperienceREQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATIONBachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or universitySubstitution: Experience as described below may substitute for the required training/education through an established formulaREQUIRED EXPERIENCEFour (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid accounting, bookkeeping, budget, or business experienceSubstitution: Successful completion of graduate coursework from a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience through an established formulaPromotional Only: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a Transportation Financial Specialist 2Agency: West Virginia Department of Transportation (WV)Phone: 304-558-3111Website: https://transportation. wv. govDivision: West Virginia Department of TransportationAddress: 1900 Kanawha Blvd, EastBuilding 5, Room A-450Charleston, West Virginia, 25305 #J-18808-Ljbffr
