The Clinic represents low-income clients in clemency matters, with a focus on federal sentence reduction petitions under the First Step Act. Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian Order.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach clinic classes focused on lawyering skills, professional development, and ethical practice, employing clinical teaching methods. Supervise all aspects of student practice and serve as the attorney of record in Clinic cases. Oversee all aspects of administration of the Clemency Clinic, including but not limited to conducting outreach to clients, selecting cases, reporting to funding sources, and maintaining files. Minimum QualificationsA Juris Doctor degree is required. Pennsylvania bar membership (or an ability to waive into the Pennsylvania bar) is required. Five years of relevant legal practice experience, including experience litigating federal criminal matters on behalf of low-income clients, is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Excellent clinical teaching ability, including an ability to work both collaboratively and independently and a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for student supervision and teaching, is required. Expertise in relevant substantive areas of law is required. Preferred QualificationsAn understanding of, and commitment to, clinical teaching methodology is preferred. Prior clinical teaching experience is preferred.
